1: Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Windsor, CT.  We moved to North Carolina, September 2006.

2. What is your favorite WOD/movement?

My favorite movements are anything that lets me hold a bar and put weight on it.

Deadlifts are probably number 1.

3. What is your least favorite WOD/ Movement?

BURPEES!!! I saw a t-shirt recently that said “Burpees…They hate you too”

I must have that t-shirt.

4. What were you doing before CrossFit? How did you hear about CrossFit and/ CrossFit Northlake?

Mostly, I was a gym goer.  I had a routine…. 4/5 days a week… cardio/strength training.   Trying not to be 268 pounds againL.

My first experience to CrossFit was from TV.  The first time I saw the CrossFit Games I was intrigued.  There was something about all those fit people, putting it all out for the world to see.  It felt genuine and raw.  My husband and I happen to catch a late night showing of CrossFit Masters… my husband said, you can do that. (My biggest cheerleader). I said… I don’t think so…that’s a whole different level of exercise. But, I was intrigued and could not stop thinking about it. I wanted to know what it took for them to get to that point.

Months later, in a water cooler kind of moment at work, casually talking about exercise; my coworker said you should try CrossFit.  He had recently started and was so excited.   He advised me, be cautious, get good coaches, go to every box you can until you feel comfortable. I went back to my desk and Googled CrossFit Charlotte. I did visit a number of CrossFit boxes before CrossFit Northlake, none made me comfortable. I didn’t get that feeling we all look for and get when something is new but right for you.    CrossFit Northlake was different… and I felt comfortable. Signed up that day. Jason allowed me to observe WOD. All I could think was I’m going to die.   Scared out of my mind J but felt like this was where I needed to be.

5. What other sports or activities do you participate in as a family besides CrossFit?

My family has not caught my fitness bug. I’m still trying. I, however, like to run… not as fast as I use to be.  I love a good five mile Sunday run/jog/walk.  It does wonders to clear my mind and makes my mood better. My husband is most excited about the latter.  I also like to ride my bike.  I’m so bad at it, but I keep trying.

6. How many times per week do you CrossFit?

3- 4, Oly lifting and Yoga.  Love my Yoga. Crossfitters…You NEED YOGA.

7. What is your athletic background?

LOL!!!  None!!! Oh how I wish I had a story for this question.

8. Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at CrossFit Northlake.

OMG!!! I felt amazing.  I did not died… LOL!!! I was the last person, but everyone cheered me on to finish.  It was truly life changing for me. I was hooked.  I know at the moment, I will be CrossFitting the rest of my life.

9. Do you have any special or favorite CrossFit Northlake memories/moments?

I would have to say the War of WODS 2014.  It was exciting to see our CFN family participate.  It really did move my heart to see the CFN family that traveled to cheer; encourage and support our participating athletes. Amazing.

10. What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Northlake?

Enjoy the process.  Everyone is scared the first WOD; ok maybe the second and third WOD too. Give YOURSELF 110% you will be amazed at what your body can do. It will not get easier, but you will get better and stronger. If it’s easy your weight is too light and you’re not moving fast enough. You will embrace the challenge of every WOD. CrossFit Northlake is more than a community; it’s a family, you will feel blessed to be a part of it.

11. What is your eating style?

I am changing to Paleo more every day.  Mainly because it makes my tummy feel better.

12. What kind of results have you seen since starting at CrossFit Northlake?

I’m stronger than I thought I would ever be.  I feel more confident it myself.  I have changed my mind set some about weight loss.  Of course everyone wants to be smaller, I’m putting my energy toward strength and health; the weight will come or in this case go. J

13. What do you do for a living?

I am an Executive Assistant at a financial institution.

14. What drives you to be an active family?

I just want to live, live longer and live healthier. Be the best me I can be.

Ok I had to add this… I am Judy Blackwell. I am 48 years old and I AM A CROSSFIT athlete.

Ok so maybe that was a little much.  But I like the way that sounds… one day.

Thank you!!!
